Capdell’s stand was again a highlight with natural fibres, bright colours and innovative product. Their relationship with both established and up-and-coming designers means they are creating a vibrant, fresh new aesthetic. This is nowhere as apparent as in Panel, their new lounge chair by young designer Lucy Kurrein.
Panel is a lounge chair fabricated from sheet steel and tailored leather with exposed edges – a hollow chair rather than a solid one, an economical alternative to material-heavy upholstered furniture. We’re really looking forward to having this in our showroom.
Perch by Australian designer Marcel Sigel, is a stool that combines curved and straight lines in a simple but carefully traced way. The aluminium footrest is the perfect counterpoint to an aesthetically appealing seat which is mainly made of wood.
The collection consists of bar stool, counter height stool and low stool. All available in a range of timber and lacquer stains.
Pinterest’s new San Fransciso offices feature hundreds of our favourite Lottus Chair designed by Lievore Altherr Molina for Enea.
It’s just about time to head off on our annual pilgrimage to the Milan Furniture Fair. The Salon Internazionale del Mobile is the highlight of our year and the event that sustains and inspires us for the balance of the year. Here’s a sneak peek from a couple of our favourite brands as to what’s in store for us for this year’s fair.
Sancal will release their Gráfica collection with eight brand new products. We are especially excited about Rafa Garcia’s REW sofa and bench system.
This is the new Ema collection from Enea. Designed by Lievore Altherr Molina, this multipurpose stacking chair and stool has been in the works for a few years now and we can’t wait to see the final product now in production.
And while we are focusing on soon to be released products, here’s a sneak peek into Derlot’s new Cup seat. Photography by Florian Groehn. Coming soon!

Nani Marquina has teamed up with iconic graphic design Milton Glaser to produce the most incredible Africa and Shakespeare in Africa collections. 84 year old Glaser is one of the best celebrated graphic designers in the world. He is better known for founding New York Magazine and his prolific graphic design (the I ♥ NY and DC Comics bullet logos and posters for Bob Dylan and Sony).
This rug collection came about as a result of an accidental encounter between Shakespeare, Africa and Nani Marquina. Glaser believes that ultimately all things are connected and that the role of the artist is to discover the inevitable relationship that exists between everything. Sometimes this is difficult and other times it’s a piece of cake.
Within Shakespeare in Africa, Glaser overlays two hand-drawn illustrations, a portrait of Shakespeare and a modern interpretation of African tribal patterns, to create a striking trompe l’oeil. From a distance, the portrait plays against the pattern offering a commanding focal point. As the viewer comes closer, the tribal style pattern emerges as the starring role to engross viewers with varying lines and curves. This pattern is the feature in Africa. Glaser’s use of his signature style, discovering the relationship between seemingly unconnected things, results in a uniquely grand rug statement for modern spaces. All the rugs in this collection are made using a hand-knotted technique with 100% New Zealand wool.
The Africa collection is available exclusively from UFL.
Arper certainly had fun helping to create Skype’s new offices in Stockholm, Sweden. The Catifa 46 chair was upholstered in an array of bright colours providing both comfort and a bit of quirk into the workspace. Click here to see the chair available in New Zealand through UFL.

Quub Interior Concepts did a remarkable job with the new Infopact Offices in Rotterdam and selected Arper’s Juno chair and Pix ottoman for the project. We love the use of colour as well as the intimate spaces created through the use of colour blocking and interesting shapes. This is just our look! The French Café has re-opened their doors after the Christmas break with a fresh new look thanks to the clever Katie Lockhart. UFL worked closely with head chef Simon Wright and his design savvy Restaurant Manager and wife, Creghan Molloy Wright, to select the perfect fine dining chair. Andreu World’s timber Smart chair was chosen in a dark stain to complement the new interior.
