Venice is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Mediterranean, with some 500 ship departures and 700,000 cruise passengers per year. A new passenger building has opened at the terminal and once again, people waiting for their ship can sit in comfort on the Sellex Aero bench – which must surely be heading for the title of World’s Most Desired Bench.
Designed by Liévore Altherr Molina, Aero was specified for the first passenger building and proved so hard-wearing it was chosen for the refurbishment. The benches can seat 400 people. The Venice Cruise Terminal is located near to the four-km causeway that links the historic city with the mainland.
Over its thirty-year career, Sellex has acquired considerable experience in the contract market, equipping public areas such as universities, hospitals, hotels and airports, both in Spain and abroad.
Pleg is a wall light designed for LZF, formed out of a simple sheet of folded Polywood®. The light spreads through its open sides and flows across the sheet at the front part of the light. Its pared-down forms allow it to be easily attached to any nook, vertically or horizontally, creating, in both cases, a very distinctive light.
The simplicity of this almost origami-like design will be welcomed by anyone looking for a simple but efficient design suitable for all styles of interior.
Fifteen leaf-shaped benches grace Hotel Santos Porta Fira in Barcelona
A dazzling bright red lotus flower has bloomed in Barcelona, creating the new landmark that is the eye-catching Hotel Santos Porta Fira. The project, whose interiors were inspired by Japanese gardens, was designed by renowned architect Toyo Ito.
Its restaurant boasts highly worked panelling bearing a subtle floral print. Identical floral patterns can be found on the floor too. The 15 spectacular leaf-shaped benches greet the hotel guests as they enter the lobby.
These benches were designed exclusively for the hotel by Toyo Ito and produced by Spanish furniture firm Sancal. Arranged in circles, these leaf shapes, which also look like petals, evoke beautiful oriental flowers, creating the impression of large blossoms.
These functional yet soon to be iconic benches will instantly inject personality into normally sterile spaces. Boasting new finishes, these outstanding pieces, designed for public spaces, are now in production and available exclusively from UFL Group in New Zealand.
